A fully-funded Schwarzman Scholars Program in China for 2024

The Schwarzman Scholars Program is an international fellowship program that provides young leaders from around the world with the opportunity to study in China. The program is designed to prepare future leaders to meet the geopolitical challenges of the 21st century by giving them the tools and knowledge they need to succeed. The 2024 Schwarzman Scholars Program is now open for applications, and it is fully funded.

About the Program

The Schwarzman Scholars Program was established in 2016 with a $100 million donation from Stephen A. Schwarzman, the co-founder of the Blackstone Group. The program is located at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and is designed to give young leaders the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, gain a better understanding of China, and build lasting relationships with their peers from around the world.

The program is a one-year, fully-funded master’s degree program in Global Affairs. It is open to applicants from all academic backgrounds, and there are no restrictions on citizenship. The program is highly competitive, with only 100 students selected each year from thousands of applicants.

Program Curriculum

The Schwarzman Scholars Program curriculum is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of China and its role in the world. The program is divided into three main components:

  1. Leadership Training: Students will participate in a rigorous leadership training program that will teach them how to be effective leaders in a global context.
  2. Global Affairs Courses: Students will take a series of courses in global affairs, with a focus on China and its role in the world. These courses will cover a wide range of topics, including international relations, economics, and public policy.
  3. Capstone Project: Students will work on a capstone project that will allow them to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in the program to a real-world problem.

Program Benefits

The Schwarzman Scholars Program offers a range of benefits to its participants. These include:

  1. Full Tuition: The program covers all tuition and fees for the one-year master’s degree program.
  2. Stipend: Students will receive a stipend to cover their living expenses while they are in China.
  3. Travel: The program covers the cost of travel to and from China.
  4. Accommodation: Students will be provided with free accommodation on the Tsinghua University campus.
  5. Cultural Immersion: Students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of cultural activities and events, including language classes, cultural excursions, and networking events.

Exemption of IELTS

The Schwarzman Scholars Program requires applicants to demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a standardized test score (TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE), or by providing other evidence of English language proficiency.

However, there are some exemptions to the English proficiency requirement. Applicants who meet one of the following criteria may be exempted from the language proficiency requirement:

  1. Applicants who are native speakers of English or have completed an undergraduate degree at an institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
  2. Applicants who have studied at an institution where the language of instruction is English for at least two years and have completed their undergraduate degree within the past five years.
  3. Applicants who have completed a graduate degree program in which the language of instruction was English.
  4. Applicants who have worked in an English-speaking environment for at least two years can provide a letter from their employer verifying their English language proficiency.

It is important to note that meeting the exemption criteria does not guarantee admission into the program. All applicants must still meet the other eligibility requirements and go through the rigorous selection process.

Documents Required

The Schwarzman Scholars Program application requires a number of documents, which should be submitted as part of the online application. The documents required for the application are as follows:

  1. Resume/CV: Applicants should submit a current resume or curriculum vitae (CV) that includes information on their educational background, work experience, extracurricular activities, and community service.
  2. Transcripts: Applicants should submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended, including undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
  3. Essays: Applicants must submit several essays as part of the application process, including a personal statement, a leadership essay, and a statement of purpose. The essays should be well-written and clearly demonstrate the applicant’s motivation, goals, and suitability for the program.
  4. Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to their academic and/or leadership potential. It is important to choose recommenders who know the applicant well and can provide detailed, specific examples of their strengths and accomplishments.
  5. English Language Proficiency Test Scores: Applicants must submit official scores from a standardized English language proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE), unless they meet one of the exemption criteria.
  6. Video Introduction: Applicants must submit a video introduction as part of the application process. The video should be no longer than one minute and should provide a brief introduction of the applicant, including their name, educational background, and career goals.
  7. Passport: Applicants must have a valid passport at the time of application. The passport must be valid through February 2026, which is the end of the program.

It is important to note that the application process is highly competitive, and all application materials should be of the highest quality. Applicants should take the time to carefully review their materials and ensure that they meet all of the program’s requirements.
